INTERVIEW WITH AN EX-MUJAHIDDEEN Part 3

Kaum Kalash mendakwa mereka keturunan Alexander the Great.

Ropa salah sorang budok Kalash. Nampok pun banyok ropa Indo-European dia nih. Comotlah pulok.

Nanti idok ler meraba-meraban...

Yong: No fighting while you were with them (the Turkmen)?

W: Others only...Russian aircraft bombing and hiding people.

Yong: Anybody died? Among the Turkmen?

W: I think so.

Yong: Then Nooriddin took you to Pansjir Valley?

W: That means one side totally died and finally finished. You understand?
(Kome kena faham sebab kami berchatting, bila teman tanya dia cam tak menjawab sebab pada masa yang sama dia pun tengah menaip. Jadi transkrip ni kalau dibaca macam tak coherent).

Yong: Which side totally finished?

W: If I'm alive (now) it's totally clear (which side totally finished, kan?)

Yong: (Dalam hati...Duh!)

W: Yes I was taken to Pansjir Valley.

Yong: The communist militia totally finished? This was face to face fighting you mean?

W: I met late Ahmet Shah Masood.

Yong: Wait...answer my question first!

W: Yes they totally finished.

Yong: In 3 encounters?

W: I've a tactic that is fighting must be when we are ready even when we always escaped.
(Kome panda-pandalah mentafsir maksud dia, jenuh dia nak speaking ni, berbelit-belit. Sentiasa berjuang dan bersedia walaupun masa nok melarikan diri, teman pikior).

Yong: How many militia killed?

W: We are 25 people. After 3 fightings, remain 5 (people). Nooriddin and I left for Tajik area.

Yong: How many communist militia?

W: Remain 3 stay there coz they were injured. More than 200 (communists).

Yong: More than 200 communist militia and only 25 Turkmen?

W: Yes, almost.

Yong: Who was the commander?

W: Soldiers were coming. Yes Russian commander.

Yong: No, no, among the Turkmen, who was the commander?

W: We applied kidnap. Turkmen people is local militia. May be you can say guerrilas. Only I am the commander.

Yong: Who was their leader?

W: Beynazar. Very honest and wonderful hero young man.

Yong: You were the commander? What about Beynazar? He followed your order?

W: Yesss. I didn't want to be commander, they insisted. All 25 people followed me.

Yong: How old were you? Did you have a military training?

W: 25.

Yong: Had military training or not?

W: I was trained by our illegal group in Turkey. Very special training.

Yong: At that time have you gone for training in the Turkish army?

W: Some people trained us and they are retired from army. No, later I did my military training.

(Almarhum Ahmad Shah Massod merupakan salah seorang hero Tajik dan Afghanistan sewaktu peperangan 10 tahun Soviet-Afghanistan).

Bersambunglah kome. Penat menaip ni. Perut pun lapor. To be continued dalam bahasa omputeh kata!

  8. Salam Yob Isa, yg deme lawan bkn sumer Russian, tp local militia yg makan gaji dgn Soviet tu. Only Russians yg naik kopter dan APC, pengecut kan. Even some of the Russian soldiers were of Tajik and Uzbek origins, morale was really low. Some even crossed over to the Mujahiddeens. The word Mujahiddeen became very popular in the English dictionary during this period. These fighters made up of various nationalities. There were a lot of reports on this. I think you were too young to know about this. Btw, I met 2 Afghan policewomen who worked for the Soviet while in the USSR. Macam sial, togok beer!
